Genesis 34

 

Dinah is about the same age as Joseph (Gen. 30:21).  She is probably about 15 years old in this chapter. 

 

1.  What does verse one say that Dinah did?  What principle can you learn from this one verse?

 

 

2.  Who was Shechem?  What did he do to Dinah and why?  Ch. 34:2 

 

            – use a concordance and look up the word “anah” –

 

3.  Read verses 3-5.  What did Shechem do to try to keep Dinah?  How did Jacob respond to what he heard?  How do you think Jacob heard about it?

 

 

4.  How did Dinah’s brothers respond to what had happened?  Verse 7

 

 

5.  Read verse 11.  Do you think Shechem was honorable in what he wanted to do?

 

 

6.  What do you think about verse 13?  How would you have responded?

 

7.  How did the sons of Jacob use religion to take revenge?  Do people still misuse religion in that way today?

 

 

8.  What was Hamor’s role in this story?  What was his motive?  Verse 23.
